Actress and talk show host, Raven- Symone admitted she would not hire someone with a "ghetto" name. And she allegedly tweeted that she is not "African-American" or "black" but rather "dark white." It was even stated that she believed she was " White American." Raven-Symone then clarified that her "ghetto" name statement on Sunday and insisted she was hacked when she tweeted about being "dark white. During a discussion concerning “black” versus “white” names. Raven insisted that she wouldn't hire someone's whose name was " Watermelon. Afterwards, she admitted that she would not want to hire someone with one of those names. Typically, racism is usually against the opposite race, not your own. However, I believed that Raven's comment was very racist. I was baffled that she stated such a comment after realizing for many years she was a famous star on a very popular sitcom entitled "The Cosby Show" The show was about the life of an empowering black family. I would have never imagine years from then she would have stated such a comment. Ever since her infamous Oprah interview where she says she is not African-American, people have been bothered by the way she identifies herself. During the interview she stated "I never said I wasn’t black. I said I wasn’t African American and to me, that’s a difference.” Her excuse for not wanting to be label an African American is due to her not knowing where her roots are deprived from. However, that doesn't mean you should distance yourself from the label of being black. For many years, being white was a privilege; It seems as though since Raven has became a star, she's attempting to throw away big part of who she is away. ( An African American women) . It seems as though Raven has obtain a sense of self hate and has completely disowned her heritage. In the process of her not wanting to be African American, she has stated racism and discriminatory comments. Surprisingly, she sees nothing wrong.
