What is Black Lives Matter? I'm so glad you asked. Black Lives Matter is a movement that was created to obtain validity for our black culture. This organization was created soon after the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin who was placed on trial for his own murder while his killer George Zimmerman wasn't held accountable for the crime committed. It all started when Trayvon Martin walked into a 7-Eleven in Sanford, Florida; There he bought a bag of Skittles and a can of Arizona iced tea. Like any other teenager he was wearing a dark gray hoodie, however the color of his skin allowed him to be seen differently. After paying the clerk, he then departed from the store. What seemed to be a normal act was captured on surveillance video; Little do Trayvon know, his families and the rest of the worlds lives would be changed forever. Questions and concerns still remain to this day even years later. Nothing that was stated made since; the story clearly did not add up, not to mention that he was UNARMED. Tell me how being unarmed with tea, skittles and a hoodie is a threat? Don't worry, I'll wait.... Exactly, it's not a threat. Clearly, Zimmerman targeted and profiled Trayvon Martin; because he was a young black boy walking in a nice neighborhood. (apparently it's out of the ordinary for blacks to actually make something out of themselves and be something in life.) Society has allowed this discrimination in the norm and live Black Lives are continuing to be demised by police brutality. Since the devastating incident of Trayvon Martin, there have been one too many instances where police brutality took place. Freddie Gray, Walter Scott, Eric Harris, Philip White, Tony Robinson, Jerame Reid, Rumain Brisbon, Tamir Rice,Akai Gurley, Tanisha Anderson, Dante Parker,Ezell Ford, Michael Brown, and so many more individuals became the sole purposes of creating Black Lives Matters. For a moment, close your eyes and imagine what life would be like if Black Lives Actually mattered. Did you take a moment to think? So did I, unfortunately I wasn't able to truly imagine life where we as blacks were appreciated. How sad is that? But no matter what, we can NOT give up on this. It is up to us as a black community to fight and demand equality
